River is currently 14 years old! He was born on October 29th, 2005.
River was born in Missouri. His mother was named Dottie, and his father was named Smokey. River was around 7 months old when he become a member of my family!
His name is “River” because he was named after a race my mother participated in, the River Run of 2005. She used her winnings to pay for his adoption fee!
River is a sweet, gentle dog who could not hurt a fly. The only time I have ever seen him angry is if you touch his food. He can be very territorial with his Starbucks lemon yogurt!
He also loves his chew toys! There’s a few pictures of him with his bunny before he started to eat its fluff. He also used to have a duck (but he ate its head).
River, when he was younger, used to love swimming. He would jump in my town’s local pond while my family and I would go fishing. I used to take him on quite long walks as well, from 4 – 6 miles.
Now that he is much older, however, River tends to sleep throughout the day, but he still has his occasional bursts of energy. He certainly loves to bark and jump on people for food!
River also loves going to the dog park! He is a medium-sized dog, however, my family takes him to the enclosed area for smaller dogs, as he is more sociable and comfortable with dogs smaller than him.
He even was comfortable with my family’s cats! We used to have 2 cats for many years. They were far older than River, and for the time being before their passing, he was very gentle towards them.
